Management Major

The undergraduate management major is designed for students who want a broad academic background in various areas of management.  This degree integrates the functions of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of modern profit and non-profit organizations.  The management program prepares you for leadership opportunities in a broad range of occupations in virtually every sector of the global economy.

The management curriculum offers core courses of study that focus on leadership, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, organizing and operations, human resource management, hospitality management, supply chain management, teamwork and team management, problem-solving, information technology, and quality control, thereby cultivating a foundation tailored for student’s special interests and talents.   This major also offers students the ability to customize their plan of study with specializations in:

Entrepreneurship / Small Business
If you are motivated to manage or start your own business, this emphasis area would be a perfect addition to your management program of study.  Courses in this area focus both on small business management and start-up entrepreneurship.  Students will nurture their entrepreneurial talents through “hands-on” learning that includes; interviewing business owners, conducting business concept presentations and exhibitions, and developing business plans and presenting them to a panel of real investors.

Human Resource Management
The human resource management (HRM) emphasis will prepare you for a career focused on the most important resources of any organization—its people.  Your advantage will be studying in the only HRM college program in this region that emphasizes the use of human resource information system (HRIS) software.  You will have the opportunity to learn the technology that now is at the fingertips of all successful managers of HR.  You will complete courses in staffing, training and developing employees, as well as specialized courses in compensation and benefits, all of which prepare you to manage the entire HRM function from job planning through member retirement.

Hospitality Management
The Hospitality emphasis prepares students for entry-level management positions in the restaurant and lodging industries.  The mission is accomplished through a competency-based, curricular program designed specifically for the development of future hotel and restaurant managers.  The instructional program culminates with a semester long internship that allows the hospitality students to make a smooth transition from the university environment to the professional setting.
