Work Out Your 2018 Resolutions
Every year, January 1 signifies a new beginning and yet another chance to succeed at a new set of New Year’s resolutions. If living a healthier lifestyle is one of your goals, Georgia Southern University has everything you need to stay active or get in shape. The University has two recreation activity centers for students, faculty and staff who want to achieve their fitness goals.
The Bruce and Kathryn Grube Recreation Activity Center (RAC) on the Statesboro Campus features 215,000 square feet of facilities and weight and fitness equipment. An indoor track, two pools, an indoor sauna, treadmills, elliptical trainers, step machines, free weights, racquetball courts, basketball courts and a 45-foot indoor climbing wall are available as well as fitness classes like Zumba, spinning, kickboxing and H.I.I.T (high-intensity interval training) workouts.
The RAC has fitness assessments and personal trainers, and is home to Campus Recreation and Intramurals, which allows students to compete in a range of club sports that include basketball, soccer, rugby, bass fishing, Quidditch, swimming and ultimate Frisbee.
The Southern Adventures program provides guided backpacking, sea kayaking, canoeing and cycling trips that range from a weekend to weeklong trips in the Southeast and beyond. Outdoor gear is available through a rental program.
The Student Recreation Center on the Armstrong Campus is a 38,000-square-foot facility featuring a fitness center equipped with treadmills and elliptical machines, stationary bikes, free weights, stair climbing machines and other equipment. The center’s Fitness and Wellness programs help students keep stay on the right track through fitness classes, seminars and trainers. The Intramural Sports Program offers challenging exercise and healthy competition through such club sports as rugby, baseball, dance team, tennis, archery and boxing.
Experts say the key to sticking with a New Year’s goal to exercise more is finding a routine to enjoy — Georgia Southern offers that.
