Rural Health Research Institute

Welcome to the Rural Health Research Institute (RHRI) at Georgia Southern University. We are dedicated to improving health in rural areas through promoting cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research that connects researchers from diverse fields across numerous academic units. We actively pursue novel ways of engaging new research teams, in developing future rural health researchers, and in promoting research-based decision making in rural health policy. The RHRI also engages in regular community outreach in collaboration with partners throughout Southeast Georgia.

Our ongoing initiatives include grantwriting mentoring programs for faculty focused on rural health research (the EMERGE program), seed funding grants for faculty rural health research projects (the SPRInG program), and grant opportunities for students engaged in rural health research. We also facilitate several topic-focused rural health Research Interest Groups (RIGs) that foster cross-campus collaborations and a Student Research Group (SRG) to engage students in high-quality rural health research. We are also proud to offer the CHANGES program to local churches and community groups, through which the RHRI provides free health screening fairs and can help churches build a health ministry to help support the needs of their congregations.

Please explore our website to learn more about our initiatives, to find the latest information about rural health, and to see how you can become involved in our efforts.
