Georgia... Southern ...

Georgia Southern alumni and fans all know this most famous "shout out." Georgia Southern spirit is alive and well as fans and alumni make sure everyone knows who we are. Whether you're passing a fellow alumnus in an airport, see a classmate at a restaurant in Atlanta or are cheering on your Eagles at a sporting event, the chant "Georgia ..." -- "Southern..." are the only two words you need. This traditional chant began as a way to clearly let the opposing team and fans know where they were and who they were competing against. Today, Eagles of all ages use it as not only a cheer, but a way to greet their fellow Georgia Southern alumni.

Game days offer the most prominent and loudest place for alumni, fans and students to show off their school spirit. The student side of the stadium or fieldhouse traditionally begins with "Georgia ... " waiting for the other side of the venue to respond with "Southern ..." Starting with a few students yelling "Georgia ..." and a soft response of "Southern ..." the chant builds in frequency and intensity until participants are nearly hoarse. Opposing teams have compared this "deafening experience" to some of the loudest venues in the country.
