"Welcome to Georgia Southern University!" is a common phrase heard by newcomers to the school. This friendly campus offers Southern hospitality year-round, but goes out of its way to make freshmen, transfers and all students new to Georgia Southern feel comfortable as soon as they arrive here.
Welcome Week provides a week-long series of activities held at the beginning of the school year designed to welcome both new and current students back to campus. The University community joins the President and other campus administrators in a variety of events as students return to campus. In fact, many of them can be found helping freshmen and their parents carry boxes and belongings to their new residence halls as part of Operation Move-In, the first official event of Welcome Week. Following Operation Move-In, Georgia Southern hosts a huge picnic on Sweetheart Circle for students, parents, faculty and staff to enjoy. Through the first weekend and week of school, there are events for everyone including outdoor movie nights, concerts and performers, and contests of skill.
