University Web Site Templates

Overview

Georgia Southern University has developed the university template which has been approved by the Presidents Cabinet. In order to comply with the University Image these templates will be mandatory and must be used on each department and college site. In order to help members of our community that publish or develop official campus websites we have developed a simple template to assist you in getting up and running as well as conforming to our web publishing policies. In order to keep a consistent look across the university we have globally controlled the framework and certain styles. This makes it easier to deploy new functionality to each site when needed.

What is the University Template?

The template consists of a header, navigational bar, and side menu. The university controls the header and navigation bar, but allows the user to customize the side menu items as they have in the past. The content area is free space and is up to the user to design.

What is included in the template file?

Required Files:

When viewing the template source you will see that there are three included files. These files are mandatory for your site to be displayed correctly. They must be displayed in the exact order they are delivered and can not be moved around.

< !--#include virtual="/web_templates/styles"-- >
< !--#include virtual="/web_templates/template-start.php"-->
< !--#include virtual="/web_templates/template-stop.php"-->

Optional Files:

menuitems.txt
You can customize this file to change the links on the side menu. This file must exist in each directory where your pages are displayed. If this file does not exist the template will read the default menu list and display them in the side menu.

keywords.txt
You can customize this file to include key words to your site to help the search engine better index your site. This file must exist in each directory where your pages are displayed.
