In these pages I describe my work as a Professor of French and teacher of International Studies and general Humanities. I will illustrate these pages with as many photos as possible from travels around the world.
Art is part of my career as well; these pages will introduce you to my art work, and link to other sites where my art can be seen, as part of an international movement called Lettrism.
Nature and gardens have also given me great satisfaction; they are extensions of my expression of culture. I learned about mushrooms as an aspect of French culture, then became an advanced amateur and even taught a college course on mushrooms. Today I am a shiitake grower. Meanwhile, the design of my plantings around our home reflects an appreciation of gardens in several world civilizations.
Students, colleagues, my wife and my own children and grandchildren continue to keep me young and invigorated. They will naturally be a part of this site.
A votre santé!
Bonjour and Salut! I toast you with this emblematic image of the global experience: My wife Barbara and I sample the 2007 Beaujolais nouveau a day before the French, because we are in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, where the day first meets the rising sun. Join me in this web site for a wide-ranging look at the art, literature, cultures, and societies that have been part of more than four decades of teaching in colleges and universities on four continents.
