The Ted Tucker LBGTQ+ Scholarships for Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies (WGSS)

This scholarship is for students who are WGSS minors and concentrations. Applications are requested for The Ted Tucker WGSS Scholarship starting in October of 2023. The Ted Tucker WGSS Scholarship was established in 2022 with the support of our alumni donor, Ted Tucker.  Ted grew up in the Leefield/Brooklet community in Bulloch County, and graduated from Georgia Southern in 1960 with a B.A. in Education. He went to work in Atlanta, and soon moved into the field of Human Resources, establishing himself in San Francisco, CA.  He began his philanthropy there for LGBTQ+ organizations and programs. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize and award outstanding students in the field of WGSS.

Criteria for selection include:

• The Ted Tucker Student Scholarship is awarded to a minor or concentration in WGSS.

• The scholarship is intended to support WGSS students whose coursework, research interests, and/or community engagement concern LGBTQ+ communities.

• The student must have completed at least 10 semester hours of credit in WGSS and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in both total hours and WGSS program hours.

• Recipient must be enrolled at Georgia Southern for the Fall and Spring semesters following the award announcement in May to be eligible for the scholarship.
