Who Are We?

The STEMstars program is a science initiative that has enhanced the STEM education of more than 4,500 high school students in rural Southeast Georgia by bringing science, technology and math to the classroom, through an innovate program combining hands-on activities, contemporary scientists, and real-world relevancy.

How Does the Initiative Bring All That to the Classroom?

It all starts with a great partnership. A partnership that brings together a STEM graduate fellow and a high school science teacher, who work together to develop and deliver inquiry-based, hands-on, dynamic labs that introduce students to the concepts like DNA isolation, nuclear energy, sustainability through green building and water conservation, and bacterial identification and containment, to name just a few.

How Can this Initiative Benefit You and Your Company?

According to the National Science and Math Initiative, sixty percent of the new jobs that will open in the 21st century will require skills possessed by only 20 percent of the current workforce. The STEMstars program is helping to fill some of the gaps currently found in rural Georgia STEM curriculums, thus helping to graduate students better prepared to pursue secondary education and careers in the vital STEM areas.

How Can You Help Sustain this STEM Initiative?

We need you to become an STEMstars Sponsoring Partner. Why? Because STEM enrichment, at any level, requires knowledge, dedication, equipment and supplies, all of which come at an economic cost too high for today’s already struggling rural school districts to handle alone. Becoming a Sponsoring Partner can help ensure today’s high school students receive the STEM education they need to succeed in today’s workforce.

If you would like to make a one time donation to the program, please complete the Georgia Southern University Foundation Inc. Donation by Mail Form, indicating fund 0863 (Science &Math Education). Mailing instructions are on the form. If you need assistance please contact the STEMstars Program Director at 912-478-7524 or

A variety of Sponsoring Partner levels are available:

  • Graduate STEM Fellow
  • Teacher STEM Workshops
  • Classroom equipment and supplies
