1LT Lucas Hynes

1LT Lucas Hynes was named Commander of the Georgia Southern University National Guard Detachment in October 2023. He came from the 48th Brigade’s 1-118 Field Artillery Regiment and was an Alpha Battery Platoon Leader and Fire Direction Officer. He also worked full-time with the 1-118th BN as a Planning and Special Missions officer.

Prior to 1LT Hynes receiving his commission in 2020, he was a Sergeant First Class in the Recruiting and Retention BN recruiting out of Hinesville, GA, was a Platoon Sergeant for HHC 48th IBCT, an Infantry Instructor with the 122nd Regional Training Institute, a Platoon Sergeant with the 1-121 Long Range Surveillance Company, and a gunner and designated marksman on multiple deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.

1LT Hynes is a graduate of Field Artillery Basic Officers Leaders Course, Officer Candidate School, Infantry Senior Leaders Course, Infantry Advanced Leaders Course, Army National Guard Recruiting School, Army Basic Instructor’s Course, Small Group Leaders Course, Tactics Certification Course, Air Assault School, Combat Advisor’s School, Primary Leaders Development Course, Army Combatives Course and Combat Lifesavers Course. He is also a graduate of Georgia Southern University in 2008.

He resides in Rincon, GA with his wife, Julie, and his two children, McKenna and Callan. His awards and decorations include 2 Purple Heart Medals, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal with “V” device for Valor, the 4 Army Commendation Medals, 10 Army Achievement Medals, the Army Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, and multiple other badges and ribbons.
