Within this setting, the Assistant/Associate Dean serves as a core member of the Honors College leadership team and provides vision, direction, and coordination for honors academic programs, initiatives, and policies. The Assistant/Associate Dean participates in long-term strategic planning,  engages in assessment, and supports the delivery of high-impact practices that contribute to student success within the Honors College.  The Assistant/Associate Dean is expected to teach courses in the Honors College and represent the college on university committees.

Position Description. Reporting to the Dean of the Honors College, the Assistant/Associate Dean is expected to

  • Work with department chairs and departmental honors coordinators in preparing the honors course schedule.
  • Manage the assessment of honors courses.
  • Oversee the curriculum development process for honors courses and departmental and college honors sequences.
  • Promote innovation and best practices in honors pedagogy.
  • Plan honors global experiences and promote study abroad opportunities for honors students.
  • Coordinate the college’s inclusive excellence efforts

The position holds faculty rank as appropriate to credentials and is a fiscal year (12-month) appointment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned terminal degree by August 1, 2022.
  • Experience in an honors program or honors college in a higher education setting.
  • At least five years’ teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Strong understanding of academic policies, procedures and culture and demonstrated experience advising students and faculty on highly complex, confidential matters.
  • Understanding of honors scholarship processes.
  • Experience in honors enrollment management including recruitment, progression, and retention.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, adaptable and service-oriented, with strong collaborative skills for teamwork and consensus building among staff and faculty.
  • Excellent oral and communication skills and strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to set priorities and multi-task.
  • Ability to learn and innovate as needs of university and higher education evolve.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years working and teaching in an honors program or honors college
  • Experience with interdisciplinary courses and other educational opportunities

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
  • All work for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy. 
  • Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus.
  • Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses.  Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
