CRI Success Stories

SSEC Hosts USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals

This event brought nearly 450 of the top collegiate archers and 50 teams from across the country to Georgia Southern to showcase their skills. Our Southern Eagles Archery Club competed in the field, which also featured multiple Olympic athletes.

As one of the premier hubs in southeast Georgia for the continued development of the shooting sports for all ages, hosting this event allows us to introduce more people to our unique facility and further our goal of being an educational resource for the region, state and now, country.

The Georgia Southern Golf Course was selected as 1 of 94 sites to host a 2022 US Amateur Championship qualifying event. Georgia Southern Men’s Golf Team member, Ben Carr, qualified for the US Amateur Championship on our very own Georgia Southern Golf Course and went on to compete in the Championship at New Jersey’s Ridgewood Country Club finishing as the runner up out of 7,749 golfers.

Ben’s finish also qualified him to compete in the 2023 Masters Tournament and the 2023 US Open Championship in Los Angeles, CA.

CRI Employee of the Year – Charles Curl, Southern Adventures Climbing Wall Program Assistant

I got involved with CRI the first semester I was in college. I went on a couple of different adventure trips with Southern Adventures (SA). The SA Director encouraged me to apply for a position with Southern Adventures because she thought I would really enjoy it. And now I’ve been here for three years.

The leadership positions I’ve held have given me the opportunity to work with a group of people and develop my personnel management skills. My biggest takeaways are learning how to manage people, learning how to manage time efficiently and how to use my resources efficiently.

Charles Curl, CRI Employee of the Year

Being named CRI’s Employee of the Year was extremely meaningful to me because not only does it mean that I was recognized as an individual for the work that I’ve put in, but I also feel like it was a win for the entire program. It is really nice for my staff to see that Southern Adventures is valued and recognized for providing a really great service to our community.
