Walk the Walk

Today’s veterans can be entrenched on the battlefield one moment and back home the next because of injury or illness. This sudden change can increase the devastating effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). At Georgia Southern, researchers have partnered with the Warrior Hike “Walk Off The War” Program to study thru-hiking, or walking an entire long-distance trail over a six-month period, as an alternative method of PTSD therapy.

Student Health Services at Georgia Southern might not appear like the natural place for medical students to gain hands-on experience in family medicine, but the facility actually provides a real-world training environment as well as exceptional personnel - doctors such as Brian M. Deloach, M.D., medical director of Student Health Services. DeLoach recently received the Outstanding Attending Faculty in Family Medicine award from the Mercer School of Medicine, Savannah Campus, where he is also a clinical teaching faculty member.
