Georgia Southern students to help Herty Center reduce wastewater by 90 percent

(left to right:  John West, Will Antonisse, Mr. Darnell Wilson, Zachariah Coles and Russ Spratlin)The Herty Advanced Materials Development Center is sponsoring final-year capstone projects for 18 undergraduate engineering students at Georgia Southern University. In this year’s projects, students will assess a range of industrial problems and work in teams to find solutions. Using Herty’s expertise and resources, one team of students will address the issue of wastewater management to reduce water usage, and another team will focus on the equally important challenge of developing a process for measuring the performance of materials produced at the Center and used in the transportation sector.

Researchers Rescue Sea Turtle

An endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle named Catherine holds a special place in the hearts of researchers with the Georgia Southern University Sea Turtle Program at St. Catherines Island. Researchers rescued the four-year-old turtle that had swallowed a fishing hook this summer and assisted in her recovery and recent release back into her natural habitat. For nearly 30 years, the program has been making strides in sea turtle conservation efforts along the Georgia Coast.
