Georgia Southern University ROTC Cadet Ranks Fourth in Nation

Matthew Horne, a native of Stedman, North Carolina, was recently ranked fourth in the nation out of 5,617 cadets who are expected to graduate between Fall 2014 and Summer 2015. He is an International Studies major at Georgia Southern University.Of the 5,617 Cadets expected to graduate and commission between Fall 2014 and Summer 2015, Georgia Southern University Cadet Matthew Horne ranks fourth nationally. Horne is an International Studies major from Stedman, North Carolina and currently holds a 3.94 GPA.

Best and Brightest High School Seniors Attend 10th Annual Southern Scholars Showcase

Southern Scholars 2“This event was intended to help prospective students decide if Georgia Southern is the right fit for them,” said Amy Smith, director for the Office of Admissions. “Prospective students were able to interact with current students, faculty, and staff throughout the weekend and ask many questions. Additionally, some students were offered valuable scholarship dollars to help offset the cost of attendance.​ Scholarships can range from one-time $500 awards to four-year renewable full tuition awards.”

Walk the Walk

Today’s veterans can be entrenched on the battlefield one moment and back home the next because of injury or illness. This sudden change can increase the devastating effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). At Georgia Southern, researchers have partnered with the Warrior Hike “Walk Off The War” Program to study thru-hiking, or walking an entire long-distance trail over a six-month period, as an alternative method of PTSD therapy.

Student Health Services at Georgia Southern might not appear like the natural place for medical students to gain hands-on experience in family medicine, but the facility actually provides a real-world training environment as well as exceptional personnel - doctors such as Brian M. Deloach, M.D., medical director of Student Health Services. DeLoach recently received the Outstanding Attending Faculty in Family Medicine award from the Mercer School of Medicine, Savannah Campus, where he is also a clinical teaching faculty member.
