Congratulation to Assistant Professor Frank Katz on the prestigious Faculty Award for Service at the Allen Paulson College of Engineering and Computing

The Department of Information Technology wants to congratulate Assistant Professor Frank Katz on the prestigious Faculty Award for Service at the Allen Paulson College of Engineering and Computing. Only one award is offered annually to about 130 faculty members in the college.

Serving as the Director of the Center of Applied Cyber Education, Katz has coordinated all aspects of Cybersecurity outreach to the university and the community. As the Primary Point of Contact (PoC) for the NSA-CAE program, he has been working very hard for the redesignation of our NSA-CAE status, both for the Program of Study and Program components.  Working as the Primary PoC for the DoD Cybersecurity Scholarship Program, Katz promoted the program to our students in the program, guided them through the application process, and supported and guided them throughout the whole awarding process. He has been the major contributor to the stewardship of each year’s related DoD grant, totaling more than $300,000.

Moreover, Katz has been the primary contact for various Cybersecurity exercises with various external agencies, including the Army Cybersecurity Institute at West Point, participating as a facilitator in their Jack Voltaic Cybersecurity Infrastructure SCADA exercises (Jack Voltaic 2.0 and 3.0). In doing so, he has also made contacts for our program with the NUARI (Norwich University Applied Research Institutes) Cybersecurity program.  Katz also offered many interviews to Savannah’s WSAV, WTOC, and WTGS television stations on the hack of the Colonial Pipeline Company and of Savannah’s St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System. In 2022 he gave an interview to WSAV on what effect, if any, the Russian attack of Ukraine would have on personal and corporate Cybersecurity.

Congratulations again!
