Casler-Failing receives grant to provide LEGO robotics development, seeks participants

Shelli Casler-Failing, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Middle Grades and Secondary Education, received a grant to offer professional development to middle school mathematics teachers. To be offered in July, the workshop will provide current mathematics teachers the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of how to build, program and teach with LEGO robotics. Teachers will walk away from this workshop with a ready-to-go lesson that can be implemented into their classrooms to teach, or support, a mathematics concept (access to robotics kits at your school is not required to participate).

Educators who currently teach mathematics in grades 4-8 or are planning to teach mathematics in this grade band for the 2021-2022 school year, have the opportunity to participate in this workshop (limited to 12 participants). Casler-Failing is a former middle grades mathematics teacher who has over 10 years of experience teaching, and offering professional development with LEGO robotics.

The three-day workshop will be held on Saturdays Sept. 18, Oct. 2 and 16.
