Georgia Southern University to Present Get Out in the Garden Festival
Georgia Southern University will welcome in the spring season Saturday, March 31, at the Botanical Garden’s “Get Out in the Garden” spring festival and plant sale featuring music, dancing, hiking and unique, regional plant life.
“We have something for everyone to do in all parts of the Garden,” said Botanical Garden education coordinator Kathy Tucker. “There will be music everywhere, activities for children of all ages, and the Garden Express train will be available to take children from one activity to another. The Garden is gorgeous at this time of year, with everything in full bloom. We encourage everyone to wander around and enjoy music, a contra dance under the pavilion, a scavenger hunt, tug of war, heritage crafts like spinning, weaving and carpentry, and so much more.”
The Garden’s plant sale will feature unique plants known for their ability to flourish in the southeast Georgia climate.
“These are better, more unusual plants than you can get at a big box store,” said Botanical Garden assistant director Bob Randolph, who will be on hand with several gardeners to answer questions at the sale. “I select the best and most exciting plants to really make your garden extra special and successful. You can stroll around the Garden and see examples in our collections before you buy.”
The 50-piece Georgia Southern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, which has performed internationally in Italy, England, Ireland, Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic, will perform on the Garden’s new concert lawn, and the Glow in the Dark String Band will play at the pavilion.
Located between Fair Rd. and Georgia Ave. on the Georgia Southern campus, the “Get Out in the Garden” spring festival and plant sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, contact Carolyn Altman at 912-871-1149.
