Georgia Southern University to Host Musicians, Dancers and Martial Artists from Korea
Georgia Southern University will welcome a delegation of Korean students from Keimyung University in Daegu, South Korea to campus today at 11:30 a.m. in the Russell Student Union Ballroom. The visit, which continues Georgia Southern’s collaborative exchange program with Keimyung University, will include a variety of performances and demonstrations. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend, and the public is welcome.
Among the activities planned include a performance by the Keimyung String Quartet, a student ensemble from Keimyung’s College of Music and Performing Arts. In addition, students from a Traditional Korean Dance team and Keimyung University’s Taekwondo Demonstration Team will perform. The Taekwondo Demonstration Team is led by Grandmaster Lee Kyu-hyung who, as head of the national Taekwondo demonstration team, directed Taekwondo demonstrations at the opening ceremony of the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul.
The performance teams will be joined by senior administrators from Keimyung University’s Office of International Affairs.
“We are excited to welcome the delegation from Korea to Statesboro,” said Jacek Lubecki, assistant vice president for Academic Affairs and director of Georgia Southern’s Center for International Studies. “We are excited about the upcoming visit and for future opportunities to work together.”
Georgia Southern has enjoyed a collaborative exchange program with Keimyung University since 2001. Carson Downs, an International Studies major at Georgia Southern, will be spending the fall 2012 semester on exchange at Keimyung University. The Center for International Studies welcomed two 2012-13 Keimyung exchange students to Statesboro this month.
