Faculty, staff can receive free access to campus recreation facilities beginning Aug. 12

The start of the fall semester will also mean the start of free access to the main Georgia Southern recreation facilities on the Statesboro and Savannah campuses.

Following many who asked about possible additional employee benefits in the employee engagement survey, all Georgia Southern employees will have access to the Grube Recreation Activity Center (RAC) and the Armstrong Recreation Center (ARC) at no cost when they begin their fall hours of operation on Aug. 12.

This means annual membership fees that provide access to the RAC and ARC are now being waived.

Employees will only need to show their Georgia Southern mobile credentials or ID card and complete the Campus Recreation & Intramurals electronic waiver to gain free access to the RAC and ARC.

RAC and ARC hours are available online. Remember that these facilities should be accessed on your own time (i.e. during lunch breaks or other non-work hours).

Group Fitness classes (yoga, pilates, cycling, zumba, line dancing, etc.) at the RAC and ARC  are FREE for members, but registration is required. You may register for the classes you would like to attend through the IM Leagues tab in the “Services” section of your My.GeorgiaSouthern portal. You will be able to access the fall group fitness schedule for Statesboro here. The ARC group fitness schedule will be found here.

The RAC in Statesboro offers a semesterly locker rental program. Click here for prices, sizes and locations.

Small Group Training classes (SGT) have been scheduled with faculty and staff in mind. Early morning, noon and evening sessions offer a “personal” training experience without the huge price tag. SGT classes meet twice a week for 6 weeks and are geared towards participant goals. The 6-week session is $75 (less than $7/class). A handful of “free trial” classes will be offered Aug. 16-24 and registration is required through the IM Leagues tab in your MyGS portal.  The first 6-week session of SGT begins on Monday, Aug. 28. Classes are limited to 10 people so register before they are full.

Please note that programs and/or services that have an additional fee beyond membership associated with them will still be charged. This new benefit does not include the Georgia Southern Golf Course, the Shooting Sports Education Center, Southern Adventures programs, bike repair and fitness classes or programs that charge access and program fees.
