Georgia Southern study shows dangerous disconnect between doctors and parents of overweight children
A new Georgia Southern study published in the International Journal of Obesity suggests only a third of the parents of overweight and obese children are being notified about their kids’ unhealthy weight.
The study, “An increasing trend in health-care professionals notifying children of unhealthy weight status,” is an examination of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2014. In the survey, the parents of obese and overweight children of varying ages were asked “Has a doctor or other health professional ever told you that you (or your child) were overweight?”
School of Ecology brings home three national awards
Two Georgia Southern faculty members and a student in the School of Human Ecology received awards recently during the 107th American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Annual Conference and Expo held in Bellevue, Washington, June 22-25.
Georgia Southern Chorale and Southern Gentlemen
take home top honors in Budapest
The Georgia Southern Chorale and the Southern Gentlemen won in competition at the “Laurea Mundi Budapest” Festival of Choral Music, held in Budapest, Hungary, July 9-13.
Volunteer for Operation Move-In
Help welcome the newest Eagles to campus on Aug. 12 during Operation Move-in! Volunteering is open to faculty, staff, students and the community. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt when they arrive at their shift as well as a complimentary meal to redeem at either Dining Commons or Lakeside Dining Commons after the school year begins.
