Faculty, staff kick off new academic year during annual convocation ceremony
Georgia Southern is at a pivotal moment in its history.
That’s the message Interim President Shelley C. Nickel had for faculty and staff at Georgia Southern University during the annual Fall Convocation.
“This is an exciting time in Georgia Southern’s history,” she said. “We are in a pivotal moment at the University, where our plans and implementation will determine who and what we become. I believe the timing is perfect for us to make a remarkable impact on this region.”
Georgia Southern announces ‘40 Under 40’ Class of 2018
The Georgia Southern University Alumni Association has named the “40 Under 40” Class of 2018. Designated by the University’s Alumni Association, the honor recognizes young alumni who are leading the way in business, leadership, community, educational and/or philanthropic endeavors.
College of Education alumna, staff member selected as a Google Innovator
This summer, Georgia Southern University alumna and staff member Hollie Sisk (’01,’05) became one of only 1,700 individuals in the world and 14 in the state of Georgia who are Google for Education Certified Innovators.
Sisk, who joined the College of Education in June as the coordinator of the Instructional Resources Center on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah, attended the 2018 Google for Education Certified Innovator program in Venice, California on July 9-11.
Georgia Southern University Police Department’s K-9 Bear to get donation of body armor
Georgia Southern University Police Department’s K-9, “Bear,” will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. Bear’s vest is sponsored by Optima Energy, Inc. and will be embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Optima Energy.”
