Military and Veteran Student Center opens on campus

Georgia Southern student veterans and students who are family members of veterans and active duty military now have a new space to call home on campus with the official opening of the Military and Veteran Student Center, located in Fielding D. Russell Union.

Faculty Spotlight with Lori Amy

This installment of Faculty Spotlight features Lori Amy, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Writing and Linguistics in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Amy has spent a great deal of time in Albania, where she has researched the ways that its people have survived war and trauma under a communist regime. Amy has also co-founded a new non-governmental organization called OTTOnomy, which will allow Georgia Southern students to experience Albanian culture.

A Day for Southern kicks off this week

The ADFS volunteer from your area will be providing you with your ADFS information so that you can attend the kick-off and cast your “vote” early before the Sept. 9 deadline. Hear from Dr. Hebert, students and staff, enjoy breakfast refreshments and register for drawings including season tickets to the Performing Arts Center, football season tickets, service at Meraki Salon and more!

Fries lecturer Frans de Waal asks, ‘Are we smart
enough to know how smart animals are?’

Frans de Waal, Fries Lecturer

Georgia Southern University will host Frans B. M. de Waal, Ph.D., a Dutch/American ethologist and biologist known for his work on the behavior and social intelligence of primates, as the 2016 Norman Fries Distinguished Lectureship Series speaker on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m., in the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center.

His presentation is titled “Are We Smart Enough to Know How Smart Animals Are?” Doors open at 7 p.m. and the lecture is free and open to the public.
