University System of Georgia announces Board of Regents finalizes consolidations

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) granted final approval for the creation of two new institutions through consolidation. Georgia Southern University and Armstrong State University will be consolidated as the new Georgia Southern University. Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Bainbridge State College will be consolidated as the new Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC). The board approved resolutions making both consolidations effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Todd Tinker has had many journeys in his life, and his latest journey of obtaining his master’s degree is coming to fruition after nearly five years.

The Statesboro native graduated this fall with a Master’s of Applied Engineering with a concentration in information technology, an accomplishment for which he took his time to achieve and enjoy.

With an undergraduate degree in information technology and years of professional IT experience under his belt, Nathan Flanders (‘12) made the decision to return to school to pursue a master’s degree in public history, a subject for which he’s always had an interest.

He never thought he’d combine them both into a project, but after learning about digital history, which brings the two fields together, he knew he’d found the perfect fit. Flanders began working with the Portal Heritage Society (PHS) in Portal, Georgia, shortly after enrolling in graduate school as part of his master’s thesis project.

Georgia Southern alumnus Nick Wiley named chief conservation officer of Ducks Unlimited

Ducks Unlimited announced in November the hiring of Georgia Southern alumnus Nick Wiley (‘83) as its new chief conservation officer, effective January 2018. Wiley is currently the executive director of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and is the chair of the Georgia Southern College of Science and Mathematics Advisory Board. Wiley received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Georgia Southern in 1983 and a Master of Science degree in wildlife management from Auburn University in 1986.
