Intern Scholarship Program keeps student on track for NASCAR internship
Last summer, Megan Leben landed a dream internship with NASCAR team Joe Gibbs Racing. The Office of Career and Professional Development’s Internship Scholarship Program, which provides funds for students with unpaid or low-paid professional internships, helped Leben relocate to Charlotte, North Carolina, and make her dream a reality.
A new playing field: former athlete turned educational leader inspires students to be campus, community leaders
John Egan, Ed.D., spent his undergraduate and graduate academic career pursuing degrees in sports management. As an award-winning college pole vaulter, Egan wanted to continue his passion for sports, melding it into his career. Yet, in 2012, when he began as an advisor in Georgia Southern’s Student-Athlete Services, which provides academic support and development to student-athletes, Egan’s professional focus quickly shifted from sports management to students.
Georgia Southern’s Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health secures $248,000 grant
Faculty in Georgia Southern University’s Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health have secured a $248,000, two-year grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the nation’s largest philanthropy dedicated solely to health.
This project will be funded as part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Research in Transforming Health and Health Care Systems program, which seeks to build the evidence base on the potential effects of policies or policy changes intended to transform health.
How four Georgia Southern students used jewelry to earn $5,000 scholarships
More than eight months of teamwork and a jewelry line concept earned four Parker College of Business students a $5,000 scholarship each after they were named the Top Team during the annual National Retail Foundation Student Challenge.
Georgia Southern educational leadership faculty recognized for international award
Georgia Southern University’s Daniel Calhoun, Ph.D., associate professor of educational leadership, is one of only three individuals internationally to receive the 2020 Annuit Coeptis Senior Professional Award from the American College Personnel Association — College Student Educators International.
‘Godspell’ next up in Main Stage Series at Performing Arts Center
Broadway favorite “Godspell” will be presented by Georgia Southern University’s Theatre and Performance program and the Performing Arts Center (PAC) on the Statesboro Campus through March 1. The musical is a part of the PAC’s 2019-2020 Main Stage Series.
Center for Sustainability seminar series opens with former NFL player
Two-time All-Pro and former NFL player Ovie Mughelli will be a featured speaker at this year’s Sustainability Seminar Series hosted by Georgia Southern University’s Center for Sustainability (CfS). Mughelli will present his lecture, “Empowering the Next Generation through Greening Sports,” at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 3 in the Performing Arts Center on the Statesboro Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Baseball, men’s tennis in full swing
Men’s tennis has two home matches this week against the University of South Florida and the University of North Carolina Wilmington at the Wallis Tennis Center. Saturday there will be postgame autographs with the team for Recreation Day.
The Eagles host Radford University in a weekend series starting Friday night. Sunday will end the series with free admission for all Jr. Eagle Club members.
