Georgia Southern receives national recognition for support of military-connected students
Georgia Southern University has been named a Top School in the 2017 Military Advanced Education & Transition (MAE&T) research study, and has also been given the Military Friendly Designation (MFD) with a gold ranking from Victory Media. This is the fifth consecutive year that Georgia Southern has been named a Military Friendly institution.
University Alumna takes part in political history during White House internship
As the Obama administration came to a close, so did the White House internship of alumna Charisma-Kimberly Tataw (‘14, ‘16). Tataw had the opportunity to be part of the final internship class of the administration and couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishments there.
Tataw earned her bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in chemistry from Georgia Southern in 2014 and completed her master’s degree in social science in 2016.
“I got into a few other schools, but I chose Georgia Southern,” said Tataw. “I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. I am so proud to be a Double Eagle from the greatest University in America!”
Annual Feed the Mosasaur event to take place this March
The last day to purchase tickets for the Georgia Southern Museum’s Feed the Mosasaur Dinner & Dance Gala is Feb. 17. This fundraising multi-course gourmet dinner celebrating food and cooking, followed by dancing, will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2017. Proceeds benefit the programs and exhibits of the Georgia Southern Museum.
Georgia Southern football adds 22 to roster on National Signing Day
Last week, the Georgia Southern football program announced a 2017 football recruiting class of 22 student-athletes rated by numerous scouting services as one of the tops in the Sun Belt Conference.
‘Night Visions’ brought to Georgia Southern’s Contemporary Gallery
“Night Visions,” a painting and sculpture hybrid exhibit by Chicago-based artist Claire Ashley, will be presented at Georgia Southern’s Contemporary Gallery at the Center for Art and Theatre (CAT) from Feb. 15 to March 17. A lecture and reception will be held on Feb. 15. The Artist Talk will begin at 5 p.m. in Art Building, room 2071, with the reception to follow from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the CAT.
Georgia Southern’s Eagle Battalion Ranger Challenge Team Takes 2nd Place at 6th BDE
Georgia Southern University’s Eagle Battalion Ranger Challenge team placed second overall at the 6th Brigade Army ROTC Ranger Challenge competition held at Camp Blanding, Florida on Jan. 21-22.
Georgia Southern Alumnus Seth Orme to present ‘Packing It Out’
Statesboro native and Georgia Southern University alumnus Seth Orme (‘14) will return to campus to share his experiences about raising awareness of littering at 7 p.m., Feb. 15 in the Nessmith-Lane Conference Center, 847 Plant Drive, Statesboro.
