Georgia Southern University announces $5 million gift to the College of Business

Parker and Amason sign agreement for College

The Georgia Southern University Foundation Inc., received a $5 million gift, the single largest gift in University history, for the College of Business from Greg Parker, president, founder and CEO of The Parker Companies in Savannah. The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved the name of the Gregory M. Parker College of Business at Georgia Southern University.

Department of Biology researchers use DNA to monitor endangered species

Georgia Southern University researchers in the Department of Biology are using cutting-edge genetic technology to help better monitor endangered species. Biology professors Jamie Roberts, Ph.D., and Christian Cox, Ph.D., were awarded three years of funding by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. The funding will be used to develop the techniques necessary for a comprehensive genetic monitoring.

Georgia Southern team awarded more than $750,000 for teacher development grant

A team of Georgia Southern University professors led by College of Education’s (COE) Lacey Huffling, Ph.D., has been awarded a $763,897 grant from the Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The grant will fund the first two years of Okefenokee — Understanding Real-world Relevance through Suwannee Watershed Assessment and Monitoring Project (OUR2 SWAMP).

Early bird registration is open for the 32nd annual Southern Conference on Children, featuring keynote speaker Vernon Mason Jr., founder of Directors Leadership Solutions and president of the WEE SCHOOL Child Development Center, serving children in four locations across North Carolina. The conference is set for Jan. 26 at the Nessmith-Lane Center on the Georgia Southern University Statesboro Campus.

Internationally renowned paleoanthropologist and Georgia Southern University alumnus Lee Berger, Ph.D., along with leaders of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas and South Africa’s University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University), have made it possible to delve deep within a South African cave to discover and recover some of the most famous ancient human fossils in scientific history by creating a world-first virtual reality (VR) app.

The Georgia Southern University Parker College of Business and the Business Innovation Group (BIG) awarded a grand prize of $10,000 to Vita Inclinata Technologies LLC, a team of innovators from Seattle University, for the 2018 BIG Pitch Award. The eighth annual Ocean Exchange, hosted in Savannah, Georgia, featured the fourth year of the BIG Pitch Award, which is given to collegiate innovators who have created sustainable solutions.
