Georgia Southern University’s Office of Public Safety releases 2019 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
Georgia Southern University’s 2019 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is now available on the Office of Public Safety’s website. Crime statistics for the previous three calendar years as well as university policies, procedures and programs concerning safety and security can be found in this report. Contact the Office of Public Safety if you wish to obtain copies of the report.
Georgia Southern’s Fall Minimester starts Oct. 14
Check out the fall “minimester” starting Oct. 14. This is a fast-track path toward graduation by earning three credit hours in seven weeks. More than 50 courses have been scheduled so far. Available classes range from required core classes for first-year students to upper-division sections for graduate students. Many are online, but there are also options in Savannah, Hinesville and Statesboro.
The classes are a full semester, provided in seven weeks. It’s intensive and rigorous, but the semester is over before the winter holidays, and you are on a fast-track toward graduation.
Center for Sustainability to host seventh annual GreenFest in downtown Statesboro on Oct. 5
Georgia Southern University’s Center for Sustainability is gearing up for its seventh annual GreenFest, set for 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, in downtown Statesboro.

The Master of Public Health program in the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University has been ranked No. 1 in the nation by SR Education Group.
Georgia Southern refocuses university sustainability efforts
Building on a decade of success, Georgia Southern University plans to enhance its Center for Sustainability by better pairing it with new academic programs and focusing its resources on larger projects.
Department of Foreign Languages to host Mesa de Conversación
The Department of Foreign Languages will host biweekly Spanish conversation tables to encourage students to practice language skills in a relaxed setting.
Georgia Southern hosts 2019-20 Moveable Feast lecture series in Savannah
Georgia Southern University will host the 2019-20 Moveable Feast lecture series, featuring lectures and performances by distinguished faculty from the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses. The sixth annual series is presented by the College of Arts and Humanities, in cooperation with the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, and will kick off Oct. 10. All events will take place in historic venues throughout Savannah and are free and open to the public.
National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week will take place Nov. 18
The Dean of Students Office is gearing up for National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, which is Nov. 18 through 24, by requesting canned food donations. The donations are being used to help students who may not be able to afford food, hygiene products, menstrual products or clothing. Faculty and staff members are encouraged to compose thoughtful letters to Captain’s Cupboard recipients as the holidays can be a difficult time.
Items may be dropped off weekdays, year-round at the Dean of Students Office or at the Captain’s Cupboard Table in the Student Union on Nov. 18. If you have any questions about donations, please contact Christina Cook at ccook17@georgiasouthern.edu.
Eagles to host home events on Armstrong and Statesboro Campus
Men’s Soccer kicks off their week of home events with a matchup against Jacksonville University on the Armstrong Campus. The Armstrong Office of Student Activities and University Housing will host a free tailgate before the game from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Softball Field. There will be lawn games, music and food trucks for everyone. The game will start at 7 p.m.
Men’s Soccer will be back in Statesboro on Friday when they take on Wofford College for their Breast Cancer Awareness and Pups on the Pitch events. Bring your favorite canine and support a good cause at Eagle Field. There will be dog treats and puppy paint available.
Eagle Volleyball will host Troy University in their first Sun Belt Conference matchup of the season at Hanner Fieldhouse for Local Heroes Night. All active and veteran military members, police officers, firefighters and EMTs will receive a free general admission ticket when they show a valid ID at the ticket office.
Volleyball will be back on Saturday with their Breast Cancer Awareness game against University of South Alabama. Join the Eagles in raising funds and awareness for those who are fighting.
Swimming and Diving will host their first meet of the season against Campbell University and Florida Gulf Coast University. Join the Eagles at the RAC for their free meet and to cheer them on to a win.
The Cross Country team will host the GATA XC Classic at 7th Mile Farm in Statesboro on Saturday morning. Come support the Eagles in their second and final home meet of the season.
