Georgia Southern student team wins national IANA Expo Competition
A team of undergraduate logistics students from the Parker College of Business won the Intermodal Association of North America’s (IANA) ninth Intermodal EXPO Academic Challenge in Long Beach, California. This win follows back-to-back wins at IANA-UNF competitions as Georgia Southern University students continue to outperform IANA scholar schools.
Everyone’s favorite spooky family — The Addams Family — is coming to the Armstrong Campus this Halloween
Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus student-theatre group, The Masquers, will present “The Addams Family,” a new musical based on the book written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice and characters created by Charles Addams. The show features music and lyrics by Andrew Lipp and will run Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. and Nov. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Jenkins Hall Mainstage Theatre.
Georgia Southern hosts free children’s literature lecture on Armstrong, Statesboro campuses Oct. 14, 15
Georgia Southern University will host a free children’s literature lecture by law professor and author Jonathan Todres. Todres, who teaches law at Georgia State University, will present “Advancing Human Rights: The Role of Children’s Literature” on the Armstrong and Statesboro campuses Oct. 14 and 15.
Georgia Southern professors named Governor’s Teaching Fellows
Professor of Geography Wei Tu, Ph.D., and Writing and Linguistics Lecturer Amanda Hedrick have been selected as Governor’s Teaching Fellows for the 2019-2020 academic year. Tu, from the College of Science and Mathematics, and Hedrick, from the College of the Arts and Humanities, are two of 17 fellows selected this year.
First Generation Celebration T-shirt now on sale
Nov. 8 is National First Generation Celebration Day. Show your pride by wearing a custom made “1st Gen Proud” t-shirt. They are on sale for $10 and can be picked up at the University Store on the Statesboro Campus, at Printing and Postal Services on the Armstrong Campus and at the reception desk on the Liberty Campus. The deadline to order is Oct. 28.
Eagle Athletics set to dominate this weekend at home
Start your weekend early on Thursday, Oct. 17, with Eagle Madness, which will combine the Eagles volleyball match against the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a men’s and women’s basketball-skills showcase. The first 500 students to attend the event will receive a free Eagle Madness T-shirt. The basketball portion of the event is free, but all fans are encouraged to arrive early so they don’t miss the 3-point or dunk contest. Autographs with the basketball teams will follow the event.
Take your pick on Friday as the men’s and women’s soccer host a doubleheader at Erk Park for Field Day Friday. All young Eagle fans are encouraged to attend the event, which will feature face paint, bounce houses and a tie-dye T-shirt station along with free Georgia Southern shirts. Volleyball will take on the Rajin’ Cajuns inside Hanner Fieldhouse Friday at 6:30 p.m. There are special group rates for youth teams that attend that game.
On Saturday, the Eagles football are taking on Coastal Carolina at Paulson Stadium for our Military Appreciation game. All active and veteran military members who show a valid ID will receive one free general admission ticket.
Wrap up a weekend of events when women’s soccer takes on University of Louisiana at Monroe on Eagle Field at 1 p.m. for Recreation Day. All youth recreation league soccer teams will receive a group discount when they purchase group tickets for that game.
