President Kyle Marrero conferred as 14th president of Georgia Southern University

On Oct. 25, Georgia Southern University held an investiture ceremony in Hanner Fieldhouse on the Statesboro Campus to officially confer the duties and responsibilities of the Office of the President to Dr. Kyle Marrero, who became Georgia Southern’s 14th president on April 1.


Statesboro Campus Holiday Helper Tree back for 26th year of community giving

On Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. in the Russell Union, there will be a kickoff event on the Statesboro campus with a tree lighting ceremony and a musical performance by local children. During the kickoff, students, faculty and staff are invited to celebrate and pull tags for the gift exchange. Multicolored tags on the tree represent someone in the Statesboro community who needs a gift and may not receive anything, while gold tags represent acts of service that can be done to help a local organization. This is the second year gold tags have been available, a new tradition that began to celebrate last year’s 25th anniversary of the tree.


Spring 2020 Tuition Assistance Program deadline set for Nov.15

The TAP application period for Spring 2020 Semester is upon us. Staff and Faculty wishing to utilize the Tuition Assistance Program for Spring 2020 must submit their TAP Applications no later than the close of business Friday, Nov. 15, at 5 p.m. Staff are to email their application, with a computer generated “request for read receipt” initiated from your email to HRservice@georgiasouthern.edu


Savannah Wind Symphony presents its fall concert with world premiere

On Nov. 12, the Savannah Wind Symphony will host its fall concert in Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus Fine Arts Auditorium with the world premiere of “Pentangle,” a concerto grosso for brass quintet and concert band by composer Philip Sparke. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

They’re creepy and they’re kooky. Mysterious and spooky. They’re all together ooky, and they’re coming to the Georgia Southern Armstrong Campus. Go behind the scenes with the cast of the “Addams Family” musical as they prepare for a wicked performance.


Georgia Southern celebrates community with A Day for Statesboro on Nov. 1

A Day for Statesboro

On Nov. 1, Georgia Southern University will host A Day for Statesboro to celebrate the relationship between Georgia Southern University and the Statesboro-Bulloch County community. A Day for Statesboro is hosted by Georgia Southern in partnership with the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority and allows the University to show its love for the community with live music, True Blue spirit, family activities and more. The festivities will kick off in downtown Statesboro at 5:30 p.m.


Eagle Athletics set to begin basketball, close out soccer season

Women’s Basketball hosts Coker University in a preseason exhibition matchup. This is a free event to the public and will also be a Halloween game. Stop by spooky Hanner Fieldhouse for Halloween activities and a best-dressed costume contest.

On Saturday, the Women’s Rifle team squares off against Virginia Military Institute in a Southern Conference showdown. The event is free to the public and located at the Georgia Southern Shooting Sports Education Center.

Support men’s soccer as they host Appalachian State University for Senior Day and a Blue Out game. This will be the final home match of the 2019 season. Be sure to wear your blue and cheer on the Eagles to help them finish their regular season on a high note.
