Homecoming 2017 is Totally ’90s
Georgia Southern’s “Totally 90’s” Homecoming Week kicks off today, and is an experience that students and alumni look forward to each year. The Spirit & Traditions committee brings organizations together on campus to enjoy the tradition of Homecoming through memorable moments. This year’s events include the True Blue Barbecue, T-shirt Swap, Homecoming Parade and a free concert featuring the Bryan Clark Band from Atlanta Friday night at Paulson Stadium. Eagle alumnus Col. Randall Simmons commands Georgia Army National Guard
The Georgia Army National Guard is made up of more than 11,000 citizen-soldiers who train in more than 79 hometown armories and regional facilities across the state. They not only respond to disturbances and natural disasters in Georgia — such as the recent Hurricane Irma — but they also fight alongside our nation’s military on battlefields around the world.
And when the Guard deploys its soldiers to fields both international and domestic, it’s Eagle alumnus Col. Randall Simmons who now leads them.
Georgia Southern School of Nursing receives $1.6 million grant for behavioral health workforce education and training
The Georgia Southern School of Nursing has received a $1.6 million grant to help better prepare students to work in the psychiatric/mental health care field through the new Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) Program.
Georgia Southern student Emily Oren’s solo art exhibition on view at Averitt Center’s Rosengart Gallery
The Georgia Southern University Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art and The Averitt Center for the Arts will present Emily Oren’s solo exhibition, “Piece of Mind” through Oct. 27 at the center’s Rosengart Gallery.
Environmental leader Vandana Shiva featured speaker at Sustainability Seminar Series
Environmental leader, author and scientific advisor Vandana Shiva, Ph.D., will be the featured speaker at this year’s Sustainability Seminar Series hosted by the Center for Sustainability at Georgia Southern. Shiva will present her lecture, “Planetary Consciousness, Local Economies,” at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16 in the Performing Arts Center, 847 Plant Drive.
ROTC Cadet named AFCEA Medal of Honor scholarship recipient
On Friday, Sept. 22, Cadet James Arvey, was awarded the prestigious Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Medal of Honor ROTC $5,000 scholarship for his outstanding efforts in the field. The award will help him pursue his career with the U.S. Army’s cyber branch.
