COE’s Ming Fang He selected co-editor-in-chief of prestigious education journal
At the beginning of 2020, Ming Fang He, Ph.D., professor of curriculum studies at College of Education, was selected as co-editor-in-chief for Educational Studies, the Official Journal of the American Educational Studies Association (AESA) included in Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) Journal List.
Together, Professor Ming Fang He, co-editor-in-chief, Professor Bic Ngo (University of Minnesota-Twin Cities), four associate editors including Michelle Bae-Dimitriadis (Penn State University), Cheryl E. Matias (University of Kentucky), Suniti Sharma (St. Joseph’s University-Philadelphia), and Luis Urrieta, Jr. (University of Texas-Austin), and an editorial assistant, Ru Li (doctoral candidate, Georgia Southern University), published their first edition of the journal, Volume 56, Number 2, in March-April 2020.
“The logo of Georgia Southern’s College of Education appears on the back cover of the journal which helps publicize Georgia Southern University nationally and internationally,” said Ming Fang He.
Published six issues annually, Educational Studies invites submissions that advance critical thinking about important areas relevant to AESA and the disciplines of social and educational foundations. AESA was established in 1968 as an international learned society for scholars, researchers, teacher educators, students, teachers and administrators who were interested in social and educational foundations, both in and outside of schools.
“The editorial team is comprised of scholars from diverse institutions, geographic locations, and epistemological and methodological expertise,” said Ming Fang He. “Combined, they have many years of experience engaging in the social and educational foundations with depth and breadth in school and community-based contexts.”
Educational Studies provides cross-disciplinary forum for the exchange and debate of ideas generated from diverse fields including anthropology, economics, history, philosophy, politics, and sociology of education, as well as race/ethnic, gender, queer, cultural, comparative, and transnational studies.
The journal has become more accessible to readers as part of the international publishing company Taylor & Francis Group and can be found in the Social Sciences & Humanities Library and Education Subject Collection of Librarian Resources. During 2012-2018, Educational Studies’s global accessibility and sales reached 3,034 institutions around the world. Educational Studies has been included in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) database and the emerging Sources Citation Index, and can be cited in the Web of Science™. This increases citation and gives the journal even greater visibility.
“Being a part of the editorial team is a great opportunity and responsibility with regard to the stewardship of Educational Studies as a site for sociological imagination, radical love, scholarly invigoration, and sustainable praxis in difficult times,” said Ming Fang He.
