Jackie Kim receives Outstanding SoTL Scholar award

Jackie Kim, Ed.D.

Jackie HeeYoung Kim, Ed.D., professor in the Department of Leadership, Technology and Human Development, has been named the 2020-21 Outstanding SoTL Scholar. This designation recognizes a Georgia Southern University faculty member for a body of work of outstanding contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). Kim’s research interests focus on bridging the gap between theory and practice. Her published works center around four major themes: 1) flipped classroom teaching approach; 2) self-regulated online learning; 3) role-playing approach (problem solving); and 4) peer-tutoring.

Kim started at Armstrong Atlantic State University in 2007, and has served in the College of Education (COE), now at Georgia Southern, for 13 years earning tenure and promotion to professor of instructional technology. Recently, Kim and COE colleague Abe Flanigan, Ph.D., published an article in the Handbook of Research on Innovations in Non-Traditional Educational Practices on “Curbing Student Digital Distraction with Non-Traditional Teaching Strategies.” Additional publications by Kim in 2019 addressed topics of integrating technology into instruction and flipped classroom case studies.
