Hodges presents to Rwandan university faculty

Charles Hodges, Ph.D., professor of instructional technology in the Department of Leadership, Technology and Human Development, was invited to speak at a webinar hosted by the University of Global Health Equity in Kigali, Rwanda.

Hodges spoke about the Keller’s ARCS model of motivation in learning design, originated by John Keller, which is based upon the idea that there are four key elements in the learning process which can encourage and sustain learners’ motivation. These four elements include: attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction (ARCS).

“I was able to present on how to enhance learner motivation in online or face-to-face courses using Keller’s ARCS model,” said Hodges. “Learner motivation is one of my main lines of research.”

The presentation was received by faculty members at the University of Global Health Equity as well as members of the Virginia Tech instructional technology doctoral program alumni network.
