Doğan co-authors article in international journal

Selçuk Doğan, Ph.D., assistant professor of curriculum and instruction in the Department of Elementary and Special Education, co-authored a paper published in the international journal Library and Information Science Research. The article, titled “A model for understanding new media literacy: Epistemological beliefs and social media use,” outlines a model created to exploring the precursors to New Media Literacy (NML).

Media literacy, the practices that allow people to access, evaluate and create or manipulate media, are crucial to understanding misinformation. The research team, including Doğan, Ismail Celik, and Hanni Muukkonen, included epistemological beliefs and social media use purposes. Their study indicated that knowledge of social media use and epistemological beliefs enables us to largely understand the NML skills.
