Hodges publishes on the future of teacher preparation programs

Charles Hodges, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Leadership, Technology and Human Development, served as the lead author on an article published in the August 2022 edition of the Journal of Technology and Teacher Education.

In the article, titled “A 2025 Vision for Building Access to K-12 Online and Blended Learning in Pre-service Teacher Education,” Hodges and co-authors present evidence and objectives for teacher education programs of the near future to prepare teacher candidates with the knowledge, skills and expertise necessary to be successful teaching in online and blended modalities.

Goals outlined in the article include: sufficient course work covering research and best practices for online and blended learning; pre-service teachers experience being online learners themselves, as well as completing field experiences in these modalities; creating or refining metrics and instruments to further assess and support the growth of pre-service teachers’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes of teaching in K-12 online and blended settings; widely accepted standards of K-12 online and blended learning; and national accreditation agencies adopting these recommendations.
