Education

  • B.S. University of Pune, India (1998)
  • M.S. University of Pune, India (2000)
  • Ph.D. University of Massachusetts, Boston (2008)

Dr. Shainaz Landge joined Georgia Southern University in August of 2010. She completed her M.S. degree in Organic Chemistry (2000) from the University of Pune (India), after which she worked as a project assistant at the National Chemical Laboratory in Pune. In 2008, she completed her Ph.D. research under the supervision of Dr. Béla Török at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and then moved on to a postdoctoral position at Dartmouth College (NH) under the direction of Dr. Ivan Aprahamian comprising research focused on the “Synthesis and development of molecular switches triggered by pH, metal and light”. In her spare time she likes to read, write, watch movies and hang around with friends and family members.

Dr. Landge’s research interests are in the area of synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and supramolecular chemistry. Click here for the detailed description of the projects.

Her current research projects include:

  • Microwave assisted synthesis of biologically active heterocycles towards cancer research.
  • Detection of toxic transition metal cations, anions targeted towards Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Synthesis and detection of sugar sensors for Type II diabetes.
  • Utilizing and assessing “elaborate visual analogy” to explain difficult topics in organic chemistry.
  • Engaging students with interactive teaching aids to understand the complex concepts in chemistry.
