Albion’s Voice (1970)

Digitized issues of Savannah alternative’s newspaper from 1970. Donated by Jack E. Miller in memory of Dr. James Land Jones and William H. Strong. From the Finding Aid: “Albion’s Voice reported on the war in Vietnam, racism, women’s/ gay liberation, environmental issues and counter-culture topics and events. ” All six issues are available in .pdf format: Issue 1, Issue 2, Issue 3, Issue 4, Issue 5, Issue 6.

Johnny Mercer Family Collection

This very special collection consists of photographs, letters and memorabilia from the Mercer Family documenting Johnny Mercers life and the Mercer family in Savannah. A four DVD set of interviews with friends and family of Johnny Mercer is also included.

Happiness and Hard Times Now available: index

This is a collection of interviews with Savannah citizens conducted by an Armstrong State College history class during the year 1973. Edited by Thomas Fuller, the interviews have been transcribed and collected in a looseleaf notebook housed in the Florence Powell Minis Collection, call number Spe Coll F 294 S2 .H14 1973.

Additionally, the interviews are available in electronic format at the collection’s Table of Contents page. Topics include modern (c. 1973) and depression-era race and race relations, including some referneces to the Civil Rights movement, as well as depression-era commerce, economics, and culture– all from a variety of perspectives.

Lane Library Digital Collections

The Digital Collections include electronically generated versions of many images from our visual materials collections as well as student work. The majoirty of the digitized work is in the Savannah Biographies series, as detailed above, however a recent addition to our digital collections includes an electronic version of a student-produced archaeology paper written for a history class.

Armstrong’s Greatest Generation Exhibit

“Armstrong’s Greatest Generation” tells the story of the Armstrong students before, during and after the war. It draws on the collections of the University Archives, featuring photographs for the University yearbook The Geechee. Caroline Hopkinson, Reference Librarian and Head of Special Collections, curated the exhibit, and Dr. Janet Stone of the History Department wrote the narrative.

Savannah Winds

Savannah Winds: Evolution of Armstrong’s Community Band. Presentation created by Bruce and Sarah Spradley for the Savannah Winds anniversary concert held March 5th 2013 at Armstrong’s Fine Arts auditorium. A historical sketch of Armstrong’s community band by Carol Anderson is also available here and in the Library’s special collections.
