Ian Allen received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Penn State before earning his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the US Army-Baylor University DPT Program. He then served as an active duty physical therapist in the US Army for six years before transitioning to the US Army Reserves.

Allen is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy (OCS) through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS) and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). His teaching responsibilities include courses in functional anatomy & biomechanics, orthopedic evaluation and treatment, pathophysiology, therapeutic exercise, and leadership. In addition to his work in the classroom, Allen remains active in clinical practice and is actively engaged in fellowship training through the American Association of Manipulative Therapy (AAMT) in orthopedic manual therapy. He is also a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy (AOPT) and the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT).
