M.S. in Environmental Science

Get Your Bachelor’s and Master’s in Environmental Science in just 5 Years.

You want to change the world, and you know it starts with changing the environment.

Environmental scientists address the challenges facing our environment — outsized population growth, urban sprawl and industrialization, water quality, the rise of once-in-a-century weather events and much more — protecting natural resources and human health for a more sustainable future.

The Master of Science in Environmental Science caps the 4+1 bachelor’s and master’s environmental science program at Georgia Southern University.

The field of environmental science is not only rewarding, but steadily growing. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, environmental scientist and specialist occupations are expected to grow by 5% each year until 2031 with an average annual salary of more than $75,000.

MS in Environmental Science Program Highlights

The environmental science program is offered through the James H. Oliver Institute for Coastal Plain Science (ICPS), an interdisciplinary research and education center directed toward understanding the physical and biological resources below the Fall Line and their sustainable use and management.

  • Work with scientists and biologists with decades of expertise in the field. Get world-class instruction in the classroom and hands-on experience in a wide range of natural laboratories — forests, beaches, salt marshes, rivers and more — along southeast Georgia’s coastal plain.
  • Our interdisciplinary curriculum uses training from across the College of Science and Mathematics. Use data, perspectives and theories from the natural and physical sciences. Learn oral and written communication skills useful for presentations, grant proposals, scientific reports and journal articles.
  • Get an advanced degree faster by completing up to 15 hours of master’s degree requirements in the senior year of your undergraduate degree. Learn more about Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s (ABM) Programs.
  • Gain hands-on, real-world experience by completing a required Research/Internship
  • Study-abroad opportunities are also available for students.
