Biography

Melvin Lamboy-Ruiz is an associate professor of accounting at the School of Accountancy (SOA). He received his BSBA from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, his master’s in health services administration from the University of Puerto Rico-Medical Sciences, and his Ph.D. in management-accounting from Purdue University. Melvin teaches undergraduate and graduate financial accounting courses at the Parker College of Business. His primary research interest is the impact of accounting information quality on socially significant outcomes in the healthcare industry. Melvin’s research articles have been published in the Journal of Business Ethics, International Journal of Accounting Information Systems, Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Forensic and Investigative Accounting, and Advances in Accounting. He dedicates his service efforts to assessing student learning at the SOA and increasing diversity and inclusion in the academic community. His professional services outside Georgia Southern include serving the American Accounting Association (AAA) on its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee, where he chairs the Sub-Committee on DEI Resources, and is the editor of the AAA Diversity Section Newsletter. Melvin has received awards for his teaching, research, and service to Georgia Southern and the accounting profession, including the 2023 Award for the Best Paper Published in the Journal of Information Systems in 2020, the 2021 Excellence in Service Award from the AAA Diversity Section, the 2022 Olivia Suggs Flanagan Fellowship Award, and the 2021 Dabbs, Hickman, Hill and Cannon Scholar Award from the Parker College of Business.
