Center for Applied Cyber Education
The Center for Applied Cyber Education (CACE), based at the Armstrong campus in Savannah, is an interdisciplinary center and a leader in cyber education and training. CACE began in October 2015 as a collaborative effort between administration, faculty, and staff to strengthen cyber education and training in the region. CACE is dedicated to supporting interdisciplinary cyber education that affords student access to curriculum, programs, and industry partnerships that impart the skills and concepts applicable to 21st-century cyber workforce needs. CACE provides faculty and staff expertise in areas such as digital forensics, cyber law, cyber warfare, cyber policy, cryptography, artificial intelligence, electronic warfare, healthcare informatics, and data analytics.
Through strategic partnerships with organizations such as Cyber World Institute, CACE is a leader in delivering certifications that meet the DOD 8570 requirements for cybersecurity workforce development. CACE has built its Cyber education and training programs to align with the National Cyber Workforce Framework. Our diverse cyber education programs are uniquely suited to drive additional economic development and community outreach for the entire coastal region of Georgia. CACE supports local and national business partners through a range of cyber education services such as vulnerability assessments and workforce training.

History
Prior to consolidation with Georgia Southern, CACE began in October 2015 as a collaborative effort between Armstrong’s administration, faculty, and staff across the university to strengthen cyber education and training in the region. The strength of Armstrong’s cyber education offerings was recognized nationally in December 2015 when the university was designated as a National Security Agency/Department of Homeland Security Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education.
This was followed in September 2017 with the Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3) designating Armstrong as a Center of Digital Forensics Academic Excellence. Receiving this designation made Armstrong 1 of only 13 schools in the country that have both the NSA and DC3 designations. This recognition allows us to expand our cyber education collaborations and outreach.
The university maintains a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the US Army Cyber Center of Excellence (COE) at Ft. Gordon as an academic training partner for the US Army Cyber workforce. Focusing on digital forensics, cryptography, and network analysis, the university and the ARCYBERCoE collaborate to provide cyber education training to local, regional and national military constituents.

CACE is dedicated to incorporating state-of-the-art equipment, software, and industry skills into the curriculum across the university to enhance cyber education. The interdisciplinary curricula include the University’s Department Information Technology, in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science, Department of Criminal Justice, Social and Political Science and the Cyber Forensics Division of the University Police Department. Students will learn to secure data, investigate intrusions, and prosecute cyber-crimes from Day One. Forget the traditional “war games.” CACE has developed red team vs. blue team multi-tiered simulations that pull together the full spectrum of cyber education in a single exercise. Through the CACE, students receive first-class instruction that prepares them to prevent and investigate cyber-attacks, monitor, and secure networks and integrate best systems practices throughout the world.
