Monthly Virtual Town Hall meeting with the Computer Science Faculty and Advisors

The Faculty and academic advisors in the Department of Computer Science at Georgia Southern University would like to invite you to the virtual town hall. You can interact with CS faculty and ask questions about the majors in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Georgia Southern University. 

The Computer Science department’s mission is to make sure you’re ready for the high-demand, high-paying computer science career in the Computer Science department at Georgia Southern University. Coached by world-class faculty who National Science Foundation and Industrial grants fund, you’ll dig in from day one and gain foundational knowledge and skills to develop cutting-edge technology. 

Our BS-CS program is ABET-accredited since 1991. We offer BS-CS programs at both Statesboro and Armstrong Campus. Students can complete the entire program at each site or move between sites. The Department of Computer Science can offer you an opportunity to achieve your career goals as a computer scientist and software engineers at Georgia Southern University.

Computer Recommendations

As you plan for that first day of class, you are also thinking about the tools you will need for your computer science and software engineering courses. We hope this information will help you in selecting the right computer to fit you.

  • Windows 10 or macOS 10.15+
  • 9th generation or higher Intel Core i7 ,or 3000 series or higher AMD Ryzen 7 Virtual box/VMware must be supported.
  • 16GB DDR4 or higher
  • 512GB of storage. Solid-State-Drive (SSD) is preferred.
  • Any WiFi Card capable of 802.11ac
  • USB-A/USB-C required for peripheral connectivity.
  • Web Cam (with microphone)
  • Provided at no additional cost to the student. These include many Microsoft developer tools, other IDEs, and many open source security tools and Linux distributions.
  • An extended warranty is recommended.
