Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering

Georgia Southern’s Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) program offers advanced coursework and research opportunities to deepen students’ understanding of mechanical engineering principles and applications.

The graduate program equips students with advanced technical expertise, critical thinking skills, and practical experience to excel in diverse roles in mechanical engineering.

Benefits of a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering

  • An M.S. allows students to specialize in a particular area of mechanical engineering, such as robotics, aerospace, or renewable energy.
  • Holding an M.S. degree can lead to better job opportunities and higher positions within companies or research institutions.
  • On average, individuals with an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering earn higher salaries than those with only a bachelor’s degree.
  • M.S. programs enable students to engage in cutting-edge research projects, collaborate with faculty members, and contribute to advancements in the field.
  • Graduate programs provide opportunities to network with professors, fellow students, and professionals in the industry.

Campus Location and Delivery Format

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program is offered in person at Georgia Southern’s Statesboro Campus. The program is not offered online or on Georgia Southern’s Armstrong Campus.

Career Outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual pay for mechanical engineers in scientific research and development services is $125,850. There are approximately 286,100 jobs in the Mechanical Engineering field.

“Employment of mechanical engineers is projected to grow 10 percent from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations.”

Curriculum Overview

Graduate students may enroll in the thesis-based or non-thesis-based master’s program.

The thesis-based Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree program requires students to conduct original research and write a thesis under the guidance of a faculty advisor.

In contrast, the non-thesis program emphasizes coursework and includes a comprehensive exam or a capstone project in lieu of a thesis.
