The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of one of Georgia Southern University’s eight Colleges. Deans are regarded as intellectual leaders within the College and across the University and regional communities. Among other duties, the Dean sets the vision for the College within the University’s strategic plan, establishes new opportunities for the College, and directs its growth and development through shared academic governance. The Dean participates in campus-wide planning and is responsible for the College’s teaching quality, budget, development and allocation of resources, the administration of the academic and research programs, and alumni relations. The Dean also communicates official business of the College with University authorities, faculty, students, staff, and external constituencies and provides leadership in fundraising to augment state appropriations.

The Associate Dean of Outreach, Planning, and Community Programs is responsible for developing community, business and educational partnerships. In addition, this position is responsible for developing and/or supporting college-wide collaborative initiatives and overseeing the development, benchmarking and assessment of the COSM strategic plan. This position is also responsible for COSM administration on the Armstrong and Liberty campuses (in the absence of the Dean) and assisting the Chairs of the Department of Physics and Department of Geology and Geography on these two campuses with communications and day-to-day operations. As Director of the FORAM Sustainable Aquaponics Research Center (SARC), Dr. Feske also works with local K-12 school systems and businesses/non-profits to develop partnerships supporting research and education in aquaponic farming as well as manage SARC personnel and operations. The Associate Dean of of Outreach, Planning, and Community Programs reports directly to the Dean.

The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs is primarily responsible for providing leadership in the coordination and administration of undergraduate enrollment management and student services of the College; monitoring the student academic policies and procedures of the College; and providing leadership in curriculum development, implementation, and assessment. The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs reports directly to the Dean.

The Director of Electronics and Research Technology is responsible for the repairing, building and maintaining the scientific equipment and infrastructure of the College (both teaching and research equipment). They service electronics needs as well as IT needs for specialized hardware and software needed for research or other purposes not supported by ITS. They assist departments with the construction of needed research infrastructure.

Responsible for the day-to-day function of the College and Dean’s office including budgets, events, marketing, communication, internal processes, staff/student hiring, data and reporting, ordering, Dean and Associate/Assistant Dean calendars, College -wide calendars, Science Center operations, COSM center needs (SMART Center and Aquaponics), and assistance for Departments with a presence on the Armstrong Campus. Content Coordinator for entire College of Science and Mathematics. The Administrative Coordinator reports to the Dean and the Armstrong Campus Associate Dean.

The Chairs and Directors serve as the academic leaders and representatives of their respective units. Their responsibilities include: advancing a culture of academic excellence and distinction in teaching, scholarship and service; providing leadership for curriculum development and implementation, and the assessment of student learning; promoting research initiatives and scholarly efforts; and providing visionary leadership for strategic initiatives that further the Department/School and College strategic plans. While all Chairs and Directors report directly to the Dean, the College exercises collaborative leadership through the COSM Council.
