Our team leads the development and execution of clear, consistent messaging that supports institutional goals and amplifies the university’s brand across print, digital, and broadcast platforms. Communications & Public Relations

Communication is a powerful tool and our staff promotes University research, events and accomplishments through respected and established relationships with editors and reporters of various print, broadcast and multimedia news outlets on a regional and national basis. Our team works to connect media with faculty and staff resources to enhance the University’s visibility among a broader audience.

External communication with audiences is available through press releases and publications by visiting GeorgiaSouthern.edu. The University’s website continues to play an important role in promoting the University. Our site provides a link to Georgia Southern’s newsroom, which includes up-to-the-minute breaking news, press releases, an extensive directory of faculty experts by topic, a social media directory, news tips and links to important reference materials such as the University Fact Book, the Event Calendar and Georgia Southern Magazine.

Precise, essential information is distributed internally to students, faculty and staff through the University’s unique internal website: MyGeorgiaSouthern. This site was designed specifically to be the main source of information for faculty, staff and students while on campus or attending the University. In addition to the website, the team produces a weekly newsletter distributed to faculty and staff.

University Marketing and Communications produces content for a network of flat panel digital signs that are located throughout campus. Working with the University’s IT team, the marketing team manages digital signage policy, process and content for screens throughout campus. The department also is responsible for management of the University’s Event Calendar which is used to promote on- and off-campus events.

University Marketing and Communications at Georgia Southern University plays an important role on the University’s crisis response team. We manage and update the University’s crisis communications plan and coordinate with the University System of Georgia’s central communications team. In addition, the team, in cooperation with the University’s Department of Public Safety, manages Georgia Southern’s Eagle Alert emergency message system. This unique system delivers emergency messages to faculty, staff and students via e-mail, cell phone, home and office phone, text message and social media.

University Marketing and Communications at Georgia Southern University is responsible for sharing University news and events through a variety of social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+, Flickr and YouTube. The team also provides support and guidance to University departments and organizations on developing a successful voice and plan for social media accounts to increase engagement.

Our team of brand and graphic design professionals is responsible for creating all major University publications, web/digital pieces and promotional materials. In addition to designing materials aimed at external and internal audiences, the team is also available to assist the campus community in producing professional, attractive and well-edited publications and advertisements.

Photography

Photography services are available to the University community for portraits, marketing, documentary, editorial and special events. While every effort is made to provide this service to the University community, the photography team reserves the right to determine if a request is the best use of the photographer’s time based on the marketing needs of the University. Most photographs produced by the University photographer and contractors are available for marketing purposes and are maintained in an online sharing site.

Top priority is placed on photographing events and activities that will support and enhance the five pillars of the University’s strategic plan as well as showcasing the successes of the University’s faculty, staff and students.

The photography team generally does not provide photo coverage of banquets, awards presentations and general departmental events unless the images can be used for marketing, recruitment or media relations purposes. If the team is unable to accommodate a shoot request, a loaner camera is available for check out at both the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses and a list of freelance photographers is available upon request. All costs associated with a freelance photographer are the responsibility of the office/department contracting the photographer.

To have your request considered by the photography team, please fill out our online Photo Request Form. A team member will respond to your request. Please provide at least 14 day notice to ensure a photographer is available.

All images from the Georgia Southern University photo collection are approved for use by staff, faculty, students, alumni and friends for University purposes only. All photos must be properly captioned and credited where appropriate.

Media requests for photos require the approval of University Communications and Marketing before images are released. All photos must be properly captioned and credited where appropriate. Images can be requested through our Communications & Public Relations team.

Georgia Southern University retains the use, copyright and licensing to all images created by staff photographers. You may not re-use, sell, distribute, copy, or manipulate any image created for Georgia Southern University. All rights for reproduction of any image remain with Georgia Southern University and any permission to use these images must be obtained prior to publication for any other use.

All images created by the University should be properly credited when published in print or on the web. Credit formats and guidelines are listed below, but please contact us to confirm the proper credits for specific photos.

  • Photos produced by the University Photographer must be credited as “Georgia Southern University.”
  • Photos produced by freelance photographers on behalf of the University must be credited as “[Insert Photographers Name] for Georgia Southern University.”

A photo release is required of all models that are being photographed. The photo release outlines the terms by which the photo will be used. If you need a copy of the release form for a shoot you have scheduled outside of University Communications and Marketing, you can download the standard release form or a minor release form for models that are under the age of 18.

Each image produced for Georgia Southern University is an accurate representation of the school and its faculty, staff and student body. You may NOT alter, artificially enhance or manipulate this content in any way.

Web Services

The University Communications and Marketing web team employs a wide range of creative and technical skills to build an engaging and dynamic web presence for Georgia Southern University. The web team is responsible for the design, information architecture, implementation and launching of college, office and departmental websites. The web team also provides support for integrated marketing campaigns and search engine strategies in support of the University’s mission and goals.

Licensing & Trademarks

Georgia Southern’s Office of Trademark Licensing oversees the use of university logos, names, and symbols to protect and promote the Eagle brand. From getting licensed to spotting official products, our program ensures that all Georgia Southern merchandise upholds the university’s quality, values, and visual identity.
