Georgia Southern University Establishes Medical Managers Advisory Committee

Georgia Southern University has established a Medical Managers Advisory Committee to provide guidance on future offerings within its Division of Continuing Education and Public Service.

 The new committee, selected from professional medical office personnel, will advise Georgia Southern University on developing customized workforce development training for medical offices throughout the region. The committee members include:

• Kathy Biggers, office manager, Southern OB/GYN
• Mary Collins, office manager, Statesboro OB/GYN Specialists
• Wendy Doty, office manager, Dr. McGibony & Dr. Proctor
• Dick Farr, office manager, East Georgia Orthopedic Center
• JoAnne Furman, office manager, Statesboro Ear Nose Throat and Hearing
• Melody Lightsey, office manager, Bulloch Pediatrics Group
• Connie Wimmer, office manager, Statesboro Neurosurgery

‘Georgia Southern University offers a wide variety of development and training programs for businesses throughout the Southeast,” said Tony Bretti, Ed.D., director of Continuing Education and assistant dean of Continuing Education and Public Service at Georgia Southern University. ‘The medical field continues to grow and we have received increased interest from medical office management to create training programs that will support their offices’ professional development.” The Georgia Southern University, Continuing Education and Public Service, Medical Managers Advisory Committee has been established to help guide the Continuing Education and Public Service Division in its goal of bringing customized workforce development training to medical offices throughout our region. In conjunction with the Medical Managers Advisory Committee, Georgia Southern is developing a series of programs to support medical professionals in the areas of supervisory leadership, interpersonal communication, office management, human resource skills, time management, and decision-making skills, to name a few. ‘Our goal is to develop and offer programs that will meet the training needs and budgets of our region’s employers,” said Bretti. ‘There is a definite need to offer qualified training to prepare medical office professionals to manage today’s complex medical office operations.
