Annual CEIT Symposium highlights student achievements and research

More than 100 students presented posters and demonstrations of their research in the Allen E. Paulson College of Engineering and Technology (CEIT) Student Research Symposium on Friday, April 21, in the Information Technology Building. The CEIT Student Research Symposium showcased undergraduate and graduate student researchers in the College, and emphasized the applicability of CEIT research to current industry and employer needs. Sixty-one undergraduate and 49 graduate students presented posters highlighting their research. Cash awards were given to the presenters of the top three undergraduate and graduate presentations. The students who received prizes for the presentation include:

“Our students and faculty devoted a lot of hard work into preparing their presentations. I strongly believe that our graduates will realize the rewards of participating in academic research as they enter the professional world and demonstrate the strengths of a hands-on education at Georgia Southern,” said Mohammad Davoud, dean of the College. The annual Symposium promotes research within the College and demonstrates the value of research for all students. Industry leaders and professionals, faculty, CEIT alumni and board members, and others were invited to see the latest in research from students. “At least 40 representatives of industry, students and faculty from throughout the University, as well as President Hebert, attended the 2017 Symposium,” Davoud said. “Everyone was thoroughly impressed with the professionalism of the presentations and the maturity of the research presented. We are planning now to at least double the number of attendees from industry, governmental agencies and other stakeholders for next year’s Symposium.” Georgia Southern University, a public Carnegie Doctoral/Research University founded in 1906, offers 119 degree programs serving 20,673 students.
