AI Applied Skills is an optional, fully online course and the second tier in Georgia Southern University’s AI Literacy micro-credential pathway. Building on the foundational concepts introduced in AI Fundamentals, this course focuses on the practical “know-how” of applying generative AI in academic settings.
Students who complete AI Fundamentals are automatically enrolled in AI Applied Skills to further develop their digital capabilities.

What does AI Applied Skills Cover?
The course provides practical guidance on:
Practicing transparent citation and adhering to responsible AI use policies
Designing effective prompting strategies tailored for academic tasks
Using AI for studying, brainstorming, and writing support while maintaining authentic student ownership
Selecting appropriate AI tools for different assignments and subject areas
Evaluating, fact-checking, and managing AI-generated outputs
Course Format
- Format: Fully online and self-paced in Folio
- Credit Status: Non-credit (100% optional; does not affect GPA)
- Estimated Time: 60–90 minutes
- Completion Requirements: Earn an 80% or higher on all required activities. Unlimited activity retries allowed
- Credential: Level 2 AI Literacy Badge upon completion, unlocking Course 3 (launching later this year)
Accessing the Course
Once you successfully complete the required AI Fundamentals course, you will be enrolled in AI Applied Skills within 24-48 hours.
To access the course:
- Log in to the MyGeorgiaSouthern portal.
- Select Folio under “Popular Links.”
- Locate AI Applied Skills in your Folio course list.

AI Applied Skills builds on the baseline guidance of AI Fundamentals by teaching students hands-on, ethically sound AI workflows. Students who complete this optional course demonstrate advanced proficiency in prompting, tool selection, data safety, and transparent AI integration. Faculty can leverage these student competencies when defining assignment guidelines and course-level AI policies.
