Georgia Southern University Museum brings back Feed the Mosasaur fundraiser for 40th anniversary of fossil unveiling
The Georgia Southern University Museum is bringing back its signature Feed the Mosasaur fundraising event in honor of the 40th anniversary of the mosasaur fossil exhibit unveiling. This year’s theme is Flavors of the LowCountry, featuring a catered dinner, music, museum artifacts and a silent auction, all connecting to the natural and cultural history of Georgia’s Coastal Plain region.
“Since 2007, our Feed the Mosasaur event has taken guests on a global journey of culinary art,” said Lashanda Hicks-Griffin, interim director of the Museum. “Having heard so many positive reflections from our community members, I am greatly looking forward to the revival of this event.”
The four-course dinner includes a live demonstration of the meal’s preparation by a gourmet chef. Hicks-Griffin believes this special element is one reason attendees of previous editions remember the event so fondly.
“It’s been quite successful in the past because of its originality,” she said. “Our area is rich with food tradition, so guests can experience great meals anywhere, but seeing how these world-class dishes are made right in front of you elevates the entire experience.”
Marjean Cone, curator of education at the Museum, sees the evening as a perfect way to blend a memorable experience with support for research, outreach and exhibit curation.
“This isn’t your typical fundraiser,” Cone said. “While we can’t host you for dinner in the Museum, we sure can bring the experience to you. We will have some mini exhibits at the dinner that represent our impressive collections and detail the Museum’s history. I hope attendees will come with an equal appetite for learning and eating!”
Feed the Mosasaur is scheduled for March 6, 2027, at 6:30 p.m. at the Nessmith Lane Ballroom on the Statesboro Campus. Tickets can be purchased online through the link below or you can mail your payment to PO Box 8061 Statesboro, GA 30460.
